I can't imagine any reason why this should be of interest is those who serve/served. I'm still going to share it because it is so priceless. Let this be a lesson to everyone, especially the young just trying to figure out what their dreams are let alone pursuing them. There are opportunities everywhere. Just look around. Be situationally aware. (Isn't that how you survive the battlefield?) And, when opportunity knocks, don't be afraid to open that door...

This one made me chuckle:
"“I was shocked to learn this could happen, and am deeply troubled that anyone would choose to take advantage of the situation and buy our street and sidewalks,” said one homeowner, who asked not to be named because of pending litigation. "
I guess they never heard of real estate investors, or... "Capitalism."
Also this:
"There’s a bit of irony in the couple’s purchase. Until a 1948 U.S. Supreme Court ruling banning the enforcement of racial covenants, homes in Presidio Terrace could be purchased only by whites."
Burn.
If I owned the street, I would set up a tollbooth and collect an appropriate toll for each car and pedestrian using my street. After all, the street must be maintained and taxes paid on it.
