That was a tumultuous year between Vietnam and the capture of the Pueblo. I remember being sent TDY to Osan AB with the 556th Reconnaissance Squadron that August. When the crew was finally released in December of 1968 several members of the crew were crippled and nearly blind as a result of the brutality and malnourishment. Commander Bucher went before a court of inquiry where he was not found guilty of any indiscretions. The Pueblo itself as the article states is the only active U.S. Navy ship in enemy hands and is now a museum. In reference to the Navy's reaction after the crews release one crewman in the last sentence states" "I think they would prefer to forget it occurred," he scoffs, "and the Pueblo is an Indian village in the desert - not a ship".
