Unlike when I served, apparently having water that tastes like jet fuel is no longer permitted aboard carriers. The Navy had no instances of confirmed sickness for sailors aboard the carrier USS Nimitz. Some claimed on social media that sailors became sick from drinking contaminated water and suffered rashes from showers.

In my 24 years of Active Duty service, 8+ years aboard four different ships, including the NIMITZ, our Engineers did their best to provide good drinking water, . . . . I think. There were days when the water was really good, and then there were days when it would have gagged maggot. I use to always say, when the water was nasty, "Looks like someone changed the water recipe today. Time to go buy a soda."

Nothing new. Commander Kennedy mentioned water with a fuel oil taste in his tome, "Stories of a WestPac Cruise", blaming the engineers/ Machinists Mates. He unwittingly verified the uptake of Agent Orange by the steam operated low pressure distillation units of that era and locale.
