He is right the Kurds are fighting for an independent Kurdistan NOT a democratic Syria. Which is not in our strategic interest as a country. If we went ahead and established an independent Kurdistan it would be far more controversial and stir greater anger and angst in the region then establishing a second Israel in the Middle East. An independent Kurdistan is against longstanding State Department policy and would be viewed as a betrayal by Turkey, Syria, Iraq, Iran and any other country the Kurdish territory would overlay, all four countries would band together in opposition to it and we would find ourselves in a major regional war probably also with the Russians involved since they are against most items we are for in the ME just to drive up the price of oil for their own coffers. The Kurdistan issue is not our issue anymore than the Armenia issue is our issue.

I appreciate your comments. An independent new Kurdistan might be perceived as an important new asset / ally to the U.S. in the Middle East.

SSG Robert Mark Odom - True and it would be a great day for the Kurds. Problem is that without heavy UN involvement it would involve a lot of bloodshed to get there because Iran, Iraq, Syria and Turkey said they will not stand for it. All four of those countries have to give up territory to form the independent state. Not something the United States can do on it's own (redraw borders). Has to go via the UN and be voted on. Even then it would not be smooth sailing but at least we would have much larger military forces and it would not be entirely the United States and the US Taxpayer.

I am real curious how long Israels annexation of the Golan is going to hold because Israel did that by itself outside of the UN. Will Syria use that as an issue in the future to declare war on Israel once it rebuilds it's military.......time will tell.

Weak response! Actually pretty lame response! Kurds are honorable allies! They are Democratic Confederalist ! A people influenced by our alliance to creat a fresh democracy and we the mother of all democracy have failed them because our POTUS took advise from a Conservative Columnist instead of his own govt., it’s fucking common sense!! You meet with your own defense experts etc not have a sweet lovely convo and say hey ! Yeah ! It’s time and blind side millions of people who just found peace after 5 yrs of war.. fuck that..
