In 2013, 44% of all military recruits came from the South region of the U.S. despite it having only 36% of the country's 18-24 year-old civilian population. Seems these higher number recruits would or could be correlated to a higher number of injuries. As such I'd like to see the per state percentage - number of recruits and number of injuries. However yes I would agree we are becoming a butterball nation.

This. Data can be manipulated. When need the raw data including number of recruits per state. However, we do have a fitness issue in this country.

"A cluster of 10 states from the south and southeastern regions (Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas) produced male or female recruits who were significantly less fit and/or more likely to become injured than recruits from other US states. Compared with the “most fit states,” the incidence of injuries increased by 22% (95% CI, 17-28; P < .001) and 28% (95% CI, 19-36; P < .001) in male and female recruits from the “least fit states,” respectively."
This study is -explicitly- comparing rates by state. That's the conclusion, directly copied from the abstract.

Execellent SGT Sean Goodrow - I did not click on the link to the study, however upon further review it indeed looks like a very accurate per state assessment. I guess the higher percentage of recruits from this region makes this a little more problematic. I find this very ironic/contradictory as when it comes to recruiting college athletes the south has always produced some great talent. Alabama, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina and Louisiana all well known with college recruiters.

The 12 Best Recruiting Hotbeds in College Football
College coaches not only coach players on the field, but they also serve as essentially the scouts for the program. The great ones do not waste time on the recruiting trail, as they know exactly where to go for the best talent...
