Col, I hate to burst your bubble, but this is old news, and there are still a lot of programs that don't run in Wine...

I know. I've had many failed and successful attempts with winehq.

None of this is new. I've started threads about each of these in the past. I think they're trying to ride the hype of Windows + Canonical.

I know Wine has been around, I've just not paid much attention. I think I'm going to spin up a VM in the lab check it out this weekend.

COL Jim Kohlmann - As LCDR Rabbah Rona Matlow stated, not all apps work with WINE. at winehq.com, there are readme's that read how someone got a particular application running or if they didn't.
Few other things from a linux fanboy-
1. You don't need MS Office if you have Libre office. Libre Draw can substitute for Visio.
2. If you need fonts in your linux OS, simply copy your C:/windows/fonts folder to your /home/*user*/.fonts folder.
3. Sir, I don't know how much you know about linux, but if you're looking for a specific type of distro, you can filter your search with Distrowatch:

By the way, I know a guy that got MS Office working on a linux OS. I don't see the point, though.

SGT (Join to see) - Thanks for the advice. I don't personally do a lot with Linux, so this is an opportunity to get back into it. That's what happens when you get to be more senior - you don't get to do hands on as much!

COL Jim Kohlmann - Anytime, sir. I'm interested in hearing what distro you choose and how it goes for you. Have fun.
