Well, first, based on the contemporary writings at the time, Rep. Cawthorn is correct, part of the reason for the Second Amendment is to overthrow tyranny. It would have been needed had Trump's attempt to overthrow the election had succeeded.

However, both Cawthorn and Vanity Fair are incorrect on how the Army and Marines handled both the VC and the NVA in Vietnam. Both should read Col. Harry G. Summers, Jr., "On Strategy: A Critical Analysis of the Vietnam War" (1995) ("On the battlefield itself, the Army was unbeatable. In engagement after engagement the forces of the Viet Cong and that of the North Vietnamese Army were thrown back with terrible losses. Yet, in the end, it was North Vietnam, not the United States, that emerged victoriously."). The idea that both Cawthorn and Vanity Fair have that the VC/NVA won because of superiority from guerrilla action is just wrong.

Finally, and this is the part that I find most egregious, Cawthorn appears to have the opinion that only those supporting the "right" and Trump would rise up and fight. That's a mistake.
