After being accused of bending court ethics and slandered, Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas was defended by a letter bearing 112 signatories including current solicitors general, general counsels, partners at litigation firms and law professors. The lawyers described Justice Thomas’ integrity as “unimpeachable.” They spoke admiringly of Thomas, who was descended from African slaves, as having a life fraught with many difficulties and challenges, starting with when his father left home and a fire took “all he had and the shack where he lived.” He overcame many many obstacles in his life to get where he is today.
