I heard one very substantive proposal, from Trump, to allow veterans to seek private care when the VA fails them. Of course, he didn't offer any explanation of how this would be paid for, but still I like the sounds of that. Even if someone figures out how to fix the VA, it will take time and this would be a wonderful stopgap

I would guess that during the appointment phase it would be a handled matter, much like a voucher.

SPC James Harsh - I'm thinking in terms of funding such a program. To be fair, we're throwing a lot of money at the VA that is not being well spent, and this might be sufficient to fund Trump's proposed program.

Wasn't this what the "Veteran's Choice" supposed to allow? All I know about the VCP was I got my card with a letter stating "if you can't get into the VA in a timely manner, call the number on the card, take the card and present it to your civilian doctor". Not a single doctor (all referred to me by the VA) was even informed of the program or how to use it. Left me stuck with the bill. Luckily I still have tricare so all I was stuck with was my cost share. This program seems to be a bandaid on a broken leg.

The issue is that neither one of them have an in-depth knowledge of the system and it's flaws. If they did they would just speak in generalities. However, one of them has been in government for decades, the other ignorant of how to reform the problem until in office, then I am doubtful that HE will be able to control the out of control behemoth.
