Officers especially junior officers should be there with the rest of Soldiers doing the things that may seem trivial. It will only help in gaining the respect of the Soldiers and will build camaraderie with his platoon.

Agree 1SG (Join to see) but to that point it holds true to all leaders in the Army. I easily could have executed on these trivial things when I was a squad leader much more than I did. You are right, it is vital for junior officers to be in the trenches and learn things that they just do not learn in ROTC

Maybe it's just my branch/MOS - but if you go to the range, everyone picks up brass - Team leaders (CPTs), CMOC Chief/Co CDR (MAJs)...doesn't matter. No one gripes about doing what's required to get off the range and that same mentality is pretty much applied to everything we do, down to taking the trash out of the team room at the end of the day. And like the good CSM Michael Poll stated - there's absolutely nothing wrong with O's and SNCOs getting their hands dirty....lead by example.

I always do with my troops, whether I shot or not. I also clean weapons with them too.
