BREXIT may be a contributing factor for this renewal of tensions. Although Catholic Nationalists and Protestant Unionists don't like each other, Northern Ireland (as part of UK) and Republic of Ireland were both EU members. Since UK left the EU, there is more division and less incentive to uphold the Good Friday Peace Agreement that previously ended the Troubles
