Bear with me on this. I'm not going to say anything trite like "Be careful what you ask for." No, this deserves some serious consideration.
This may seem confusing at first, but it is apropos to our current situation... "I am not who I think I am. I am not who you think I am. I am who I think you think I am." Sort of reads like Dr Seuss, doesn't it? These black youth are acting as they think we think they are. Do you and I think that all black youth are hooligans? Of course not. But they seem to think we think they are, and that is why they are acting like hooligans. Now, apply this to the cops. Do we think all cops are corrupt thugs. Of course not. But they have ample reason to think that's what we think, especially when we call to defund them.
So, now we get to see just how thin the veneer of civilization really is. Be careful what you say. Be careful how you "think" about others. Be careful. Be very careful...

I think this. I think there are basically three types of people in a society: Those who are only constrained by the presence of harsh repercussions (guilt and shame being self-imposed consequences)... those who fear anything and everything they don't have complete control of... and those who are too distracted at any given time to notice what's happening around them. I'll readily admit I broadly fall into the first category. What's "best" in me is defined by what I do NOT do... because I believe it is "wrong", and contains consequences. Humanity NEEDS hierarchy, law, order, altruism, belief, etc. Strip all of that away in search of some ambiguous "new" society... and all you're left with are the opportunistic, the desperate, and the helpless; in a word... anarchy.
