I am sure there are many more that haven't been caught. Unfortunately you have bad cops and then you have those other cops who let the bad ones slide, don't report them, etc and that makes them bad as well.

This right here is why we need to treat the police with respect coupled with high standards. The cost of those standards not being met is high.

Well stated SPC Kevin Ford. Standards within the police profession MUST be higher than most others. After all, we put a huge amount of trust in police, and corruption and other misdeeds by them MUST be met with the severest of penalties.

Keep in mind that major cities like NYC, Chicago, Philadelphia, Dallas and others, still have holdovers from the big organized crime days. While organized crime isn't as "newsworthy" today, they still exists and too many cops still play along. I read where NYC has 100,000 patrol cars on the road - that's a LOT of cops and there will always be the proverbial 10% who aren't good cops.
Overall, the police have my utmost respect. Hopefully, cops like the subject detective get the book thrown at them and are made severe examples of what a bad cop will face. As for defunding the police, that's a whole separate issue that's (mostly) rooted in progressive stupidity.

SSgt Ray Stone - What I said was that Chicago and the other mentioned cities, still had holdovers from the organized crime days; the inference being corruption within those (and other) departments. Your narrow vision indicting all police is just as wrong as if I said Supply Clerks in the military are all thieves, or evne just had that 10% proverbial corrupt personnel; therefore none of them are any good.
For every report of bad cops, there are dozens of those who've saved people from house fires, car fires, gunfire, drownings and so on. Yes, we all know the FOCUSED reports about bad cops and excessive and inappropriate force, bribes and so on. Those events are in a huge minority however.
