SMSgt Thor Merich - On a Joint tour, I worked with some AF folks that did unbelievable work... still gave them crap for crying about a 3 week "deployment"! I told them when you are 8 months into a deployment and they extend you, then you can b@tch!

SMSgt Thor Merich no airstrikes after 1700 on Weekdays or after 1300 on Weekends... that's why the Marines have their own Air Force

Sir that is true, but Navy wants everyone to look same on bases, as much as they can. The problem is you have the forces that will never not need camo, and that is NECC and NSW, and some aviation units and Task Forces, so you are talking around 80,000 to 100,000 that will never be out of a BDU type uniform.

One of the reasons I like the Air Force uniforms is the rank on the sleeves and it is easy to identify rank. However, we are slowly converting to the Army OCP uniform which has the rank on the chest just like the new Navy uniform.

PO1 Tony Holland This makes a lot of sense. Should a sailor (hopefully not) end up going overboard, you don't want their uniform blending in with the sea around them. On the flip side in the unlikely event that a ship is lost due to enemy action, and sailors find themselves on a beach somewhere, you don't want the blue uniforms standing out against the vegetation. This uniform at least is practical to a combat surface fleet unlike the blueberries, gas station attendant, and the prison issue. Though I do have to admit the old dungarees were at least comfortable.

Not for Sea duty under way, they are testing another uniform for that. This will be Homeport and ground troops on Shore duty Navy uniform.
