Well there's always going to be a scapegoat and unfortunately since he was the vehicle commander, the blame falls on him. I haven't read the report either but to be realistic, I was stationed at Ft. Hood when this happened and I remember the day it happened. That storm came out of no where and those of us who have been stationed there, have driven through those crossings all the time. Its just sad that at this particular time an LMTV was swept off away. In no way am I saying this is routine, but no one could have known this. We've all been out in the field when conditions were less appealing. This NCO was doing what he thought was best. RIP to the those soldiers lost.

I remember during 88M reclass at Knox, our convey was doing some driver training and there was localized flooding, which no one realized until we came upon it at a crossing at the bottom of a ravine. Got some great pictures (I was in the 3rd seat of a 5 Ton) of our convoy driving over a bridge with no guardrails on it, and about 2 feet of water rushing over the top. The danger wasn't so much that the water above the bridge was enough to stop us, its that the water obscures where the edge of the bridge was, particularly on the upstream side of the bridge, where even those white corner markers were bend down into the rushing water.
