I get that nobody is perfect but we have to get out of the habit making examples of these things via the national news. The narrative has flipped where the criminals are glorified while those that enforce the laws are made out to the bad guys. What these cops did was wrong and they should be punished to the fullest extent of the law but so should the criminals.

Wow... I don't understand the logic of why they would do this. If they write the ticket, the hard part is already done (unless they are doing it without getting out of their cars). They have to go back to the vehicle to let the driver know they are clear to leave (unless they are just leaving the scene). It isn't like they get extra money if they get a person arrested... where is the benefit in any of this?

There was a splat of this going on in the 1990s. The officers involved were 'warned' but none of the fined people ever got their fines back, nor were the warrants that got them arrested later for 'failure to appear' annulled.
