The reality is that NO fission technology is truly safe. Further, we have no capacity to process and store nuclear waste, so we should NOT be pursuing nuclear power in any case.

The technology to become truly energy independent exists now, albeit at a premium. The Tesla electric house, with solar panel roof tiles and a wall battery is $61K. This is out of reach now, but as the technology is refined and economies of scale kick in, this type of system will solve our electric generation and distribution woes, and get us off dinosaur powered propulsion at the same time. It also greatly eliminates carbon emissions and other pollutants, so it's a win-win-win...

I do believe that hydro, wind and solar have their place. Though when I heard Mr. Sorensen's topic, is definitely interesting. I really wanted to hear what others thought of it. Thank you.

Looks to be much safer than traditional nuclear reactors.

I can't remember where I saw it, but thorium reactors are supposed to be much safer with a lot fewer problems. The tech was around in the 60's, but the idea was that they wanted Uranium and plutonium reactors so there was a ready supply of weapons grade material. The thorium reactors produced no waste and were much more effective as I recall. Of course, trying to explain actual science to the green loonies without triggering a meltdown, well that is another story....
