This looks really interesting but I can't help wondering why veterans are going to all of the trouble to create new organizations, obtain charters and tax exempt status, seek funding and membership, etc etc etc, when there are existing organizations who already possess all of these things and begging for members? The VFW and American Legion, for example, are shrinking as their membership dies. They have bank accounts full of funds contributed just for purposes such as these. All anyone has to do is join and take over. Why don't they do that?

Capt Durish,
While the VFW and American Legion are a great organization, I have found from a personal experience that they do not fit what I have been looking for. And while IAVA may be the new kid on the block they as well have not given me a choice. All three of these organizations fill a void for many of our veterans, and I support all three. I'm just providing information on what I think is another option, giving the new generation of veteran that option to find the help and resources that fit them. I have found that the Marines for Life organization has given me tremendous help. The ability to help myself heal, and the ability to help others, by means of networking, maybe help someone find employment, or just plain giving someone a shoulder or someone that will listen.
God bless.

SSG Ricardo Marcial - I applaud anyone helping veterans. I'm simply sad that the established organizations aren't filling the need. What else are they doing to justify their existence if someone has to start up another one?
