My ex wife cheated on me while I was deployed in Iraq and in Afghanistan. But if I was going to be taking names and kicking ass I would have to take a lot of leave to fit in everyone she was with over my deployments. That's not in my character and I believe it takes two to tango. She is just as wrong if not more than Early. Why beat him up, when the wife was cheating and she knew she the whole and real situation? Early didn't stand at the alter and swear to vows that he didn't uphold. He was just in love and taking advantage of a situation he was placed in.
Adultery is only a crime in the military. If you cheat on your spouse in a civilian job, no one bats an eye. If you cheat on your spouse in the military, no matter how many times she cheated on you, if you have divorce paperwork in the process, etc. you will be punished. It is up to the Chain of Command as to how much.

I was young and dumb, married that high school sweet heart after getting to my first duty station.
They were absolutely wrong, let's be clear. They took the law into their own hands, denied their victim any due process and beat the hell out of him for something that wasn't a crime. Now he'll live with the results of those injuries in the long term and Uncle Sam had to foot the medical bill. I'm surprised at how lightly they got off. They are an absolute disgrace to the military. Any "code of Honor" they were carrying out, wasn't any sort of code of honor. The fact is, it's not illegal under civilian law and in the military it's only illegal for the active duty partner, not the spouse. If the military had tried him at most he'd have gotten an admin discharge. The sheer ignorance and arrogance of those robbers (they certainly aren't comrades) is appalling.
