For anyone not technical, SPLUNK is a software package that reads text audit trails much like a human would and flags inappropriate text. So for example you can setup SPLUNK to look for keyword text like "ERR", "WARN" etc when run against IT systems. Basically that is what a SPLUNK log is. It saves labor and is very fast because it can read mass quantities of text or audit files extremely fast and point out exactly where the issues are.
