Intrinsic value of work. Is work a means to an end (i.e., money, prestige)? -or- is the value/end found in the work itself? ... I think many would agree that you can't eat satisfaction, and intrinsic worth doesn't pay the electric bill. Nor will money buy you happiness (but it can make life much easier). A goal would be to find your money-satisfaction zone and drive your planning toward that.
