Glad to see you pushing people out to BSides and DEFCON. Yes, Blackhat is nice, but as a former Gov manager, I sent people to DEFCON since it was more bang for the buck. Cost savings.
I have written on the election meddling dating back to 1950....sad people think this is new....they have been asleep...and the RU appreciate them. And we now have to think of our other meddlers like CH and Iran. If we have a real DEFCON in Las Vegas....give me a yell. Since 2005, I have not been a spotted FED, but I have hosted some Counterintelligence get together. There are a lot of us that have retired from the green and now in industry or retired from second career. I learned a lot from them.

Even as a special counsel delves into Russian interference in our 2016 election, officials warn that we can expect Russian meddling in the 2018 midterms.

Maj Kevin "Mac" McLaughlin - DEFCON has a good Election Hacking Village. FYI, they are going to do it in Quantico this year.
CONGRATS on the job. Never be scared to move in the CIV world. My retirement move was my 25th PCS. Moving will get your promoted.
I hope you are in InfraGard. The FBI is putting out some good reports on Iran, CH and RU. If you disconnect from JWICS and go to the civ corp, you will need to create those threat streams. InfraGard has been good. Keep in touch, and I wish you great success. I had a fun career, and I hope you will also.

Speakers can be the same, but in Blackhat they offer training I need to get more insight to the latest information and cover cert credits. Not too worried about the cost because this is no different than the SANS training I would take over the last few years. Also, as I understood the difference between the two, you have more opportunities to speak with the speakers at Blackhat. Finally, at DEFCON I hear you will be in line for a significant portion of your time these days too.
I'm already in the Civ world to a certain degree as a Gov contractor (Cyber Ops SME). However, the other job, if they can lift the Covid motivated hiring freeze, has yet to be formally offered (only verbally).
I intend to use my contacts from the DoD to establish channels they are currently working on now to share information (some of that was alluded to in the video). I may not be able to get the intelligence / sensitive information, but I do intend to be connected to the information sharing resources they are trying to establish with the private sector.

Maj Kevin "Mac" McLaughlin The advantage to retiring in Las Vegas is my commute for last 4 years to DEFCON has been a 10 minute drive to see the CON.

Maj Kevin "Mac" McLaughlin InfraGard is a free info sharing org the FBI started about 20 yrs ago. They also cover other agency info, to include DHS CISA. They have 60+ chapters and the often have FBI Field Intelligence Group briefer. FBI conducts a suitability investigation of all USCit applications. It is only for U S Cit.
