As Good As I Once Was
Toby Keith
Lyrics
She said I've seen you in here before,
I said I've been here a time or two,
She said hello my name is Bobbi Jo
Meet my twin sister Betty Lou
And we're both feeling kinda wild tonight,
You're the only cowboy in this place,
If your up for a rodeo,
I'll put a big Texas smile on your face.
I said girls,
I ain't as good as I once was,
I got a few years on me now,
But there was a time,
Back in my prime,
When I could really lay it down,
If you need some love tonight,
Then I might have just enough,
I ain't as good once was,
But I'm as good once, as I ever was.
I still hang out with my best friend Dave,
I've known him since we were kids at school.
Last night he had a few shots,
Got in a tight spot
Hustling a game of pool,
With a couple of red neck boys,
And one…

SSG Derrick L. Lewis MBA, C-HRM - I have 14 marathons, 8 halves, several 20K,15K, 10K, and 5Ks under my belt. I have ran no less than 1,000 miles every year since 2006. I facilitate a Wellness Camp here at our Guard unit to help others achieve their goals. Everyday you are not trying to be better than the day before- you lose a piece of yourself. I will never settle- I am at peace with slowing down and not being able to do the things I could previously, but I will never settle. Good luck in your quest- find other like minded peeps and you will succeed.

I already have Maj Marty Hogan , found the positive sphere of influence within you my good friend and other members of my social circle. Minus the 1,000 mile achievement. I commend you for it, but fuck that; that will not ever be me. I ran ONE marathon in which was not by choice, but dictated through strong hand leadership influence. On the positive note, it gave me a bucket list accomplishment. However, above all, I am looking for optimal health sustainment to get it right. I'm 36 and have not even a remote ounce of energy that you have at 52. I am pretty confident that you are years backwards and I am years forward of our current posture. (You, 32; me, 65). Nonetheless, thanks for the share and motivational words. Do you subscribe to a dedicated diet, multi's, or anything of the sort?

SSG Derrick L. Lewis MBA, C-HRM - Not so much. I have recently had to start taking high blood pressure and high cholesterol meds. It is hereditary and no amount of diet or exercise would help. Diet- I watch what I eat and I don't drink a lot of pop- one 20 oz cup of coffee in my mug in the morning for caffeine. Portion size is a key and making sure when you are training to match intake with effort. Hard cause I love beer and pizza and fried food is good. I run year round outside- hot, cold, rain, snow- whatever and push myself out of bed on most mornings it would be easier to sleep. I take breaks when my body needs it, but still stubborn sometimes. Constant state of evolvement and involvement. I do about 200 hours a year of community service to give back- youth programs and running/health causes. I sit on a few community boards and love to fish when I have more than 10 minutes to myself. Rod and reel are in the truck all the time.
