My “bonus” question: “if you receive a pension from an organization in lieu of paying into social security (such as California teachers), your “spousal” Social security benefits will not be reduced.” FALSE. Your spousal benefits will be reduced (via a calculation) based on the the pension earned while not paying into social security. It’s conceivable that the “offset” could eliminate the spousal social security altogether.
