"Coup d'etat" = baseless hyperbole.

1SG (Join to see) - Absolutely baseless. Anyone throwing around the phrase "Coup d'etat" has no idea what that phrase really means.

LTC Kevin B. - Trying to remove a duly elected President by extra-Constitutional means is the problem.
Impeachment is not, sketchy as that was.
Oversight is not.
Wiretapping a political campaign based on information the FBI knows is baseless, then allowing that surrepticiously gained information to inform prosecutions of citizens in an effort to turn "states evidence" on the POTUS is pretty darn close.
Heck, you can't even say there hasn't been numerous instances of violence in riots masquerading as protests advocating for the overthrow of the government.
So no, it is not baseless. But by the strict definition of a coup, what has occurred thus far is not that.

1SG (Join to see) - First off, when they approved those wiretaps, Trump wasn't President. So the whole "coup d'etat" rhetoric falls flat right there. You can't overthrow a government leader who hasn't even been elected yet.

"based on information the FBI knows is baseless" = pure speculation.

So if you know that the example you're using does not meet the actual definition of a coup d'etat, then the way the term is being used is indeed baseless rhetoric. Call it "dirty politics", or call it "Machiavellian behavior", or call it "completely unethical", or whatever. However, a coup d'etat it certainly was not.

LTC Kevin B. - I said wiretapping a political campaign, not a President - although there is an awful lot of circumstantial evidence that this snooping persisted when he was President-Elect and even after taking office.
It is not "pure speculation" that the FBI knew that information is baseless - their own assessment of the Steel Dossier says as much. Yet, they used it as the basis for FISA warrants.
I hope a lot of people go to jail, or this kind of thing will happen again.
