I remember having a sense of personal pride shining my boots and pressing my uniform every weekend...now it's just throw the crap on and go to work. I lost count how many times I've told Soldiers to clean their boots (but it's suede-they don't need to be cleaned! - bullshit.) or to fold their uniforms after work so they don't look dufflebag fresh. I honestly don't have an issue with the uniforms being different - I have an issue with people not giving a rat's ass how they look in it.

I don't see how it would save money to switch to yet another uniform, especially after the costs already associated with the current change over. Explain how you think this would be more cost effective

Fair point, Sir. I can bet that the Marines will be hard-pressed to give up their MARPAT, though.

I think the Marines will give up thier MARPAT easily, as they have done in the past. When I joined the Army in 1981, both the Army and Air Force wore solid green fatigues. The Marines wore a camouflaged uniform. A few years later, everyone switched over to BDU's (including the Marines).

SMSgt Thor Merich - from what I understood, the Marines wanted a distinctive pattern that let opposing forces know that they are facing "Marines", and with few exceptions don't let other branches use the pattern. I believe its one of the reasons that the Army ended up with the similar, but less effective (my shared opinion) Universal Camouflage Pattern in the original Army Combat Uniform (ACU).

I remember reading a story that Army took the black out of MARPAT because there was "no black colors naturally occurring in nature."

I agree, the Marines did it right. Everyone else has failed to come up with a better pattern or color combination.

Why does the Navy need cammo for their sailors? Seems like a waste of money.

Navy has Sea Bees, RIVRON, SEAL, EOD. The Corpsman assigned to the Corps use our MARPAT but there are some Navy units that do have a need for cammies as well.

I understand the Navy has many people who require basically the same cammo patterns used by the Marines and Army. I find it hard to understand what those blue shipboard "BDU's" hides the sailors from?
