Is truth really stranger than fiction?

I've written a couple of novels and many short stories, and I always try to make them believable. To be fair, I find true stories more compelling than fictional ones. Sometimes, though, truth does sound unbelievable and I begin to doubt my conviction to the "truth". The story of Tyler Prewitt and his batting helmet is one such.
