No such thing as an ex Marine. You became a Marine and you will a Marine forever

There is a difference with one pulling rank and one proudly claiming service identity. I still call my former district commander, Admiral, years after I left the service and he retired. I enlisted in the USCG in 79 and RELAD 1990, but have stayed active in the marine industry interacting with the service longer than I was on active duty. I've been a sailor since 1975, so I refer to my self as a sailor, a real sailor, a Coastie, not a Squid. As with other veterans officers, we have a file in the inactive reserve cabinet in case the big one happens or the zombies take over. Will always be a Coastie until Neptune calls me under.
