This is the problem that I have seen throughout my academic career since retiring. Kids acting as if having a sense of entitlement is the norm. Considering that I have constantly overheard and been asked about tuition it comes as no surprise that this new generation feel as if they are owed something for absolutely nothing. If one ever wishes to see a millennial flip out, tell them your education has been paid for by your own sweat. For some reason the idea of someone other than themselves getting (what they consider) "a free education" is unimaginable. It just doesn't end with education it is with everything in life.

It just kills me. I’m 27 and will have my PhD in 6mos. Do I have some loans? Yes. Did I get some assistance from the RESERVE GI BILL? Yes. TA? Yes. My parents? No.
It’s not their responsibility. They paid for my ass and changed it for 18yrs. Now I’m getting to the place professionally that I can start to give back.

CPT (Join to see) - Exactly, after 18 years it was time for me to be my own person. Joined the Army, was let out (during clinton) turned around came back in was wounded, let out again healed up and came back in where I was wounded again and subsequently retired. Now it's my time to get my PhD. My only difference is I don't have any loans or any TA, just GI Bill and VOC-REHAB.
On another note Congrats on your upcoming achievement "Doc"

No … no ... I just can't believe this isn't satire. If it isn't, she's too stupid to be in college … and her parents are dumber still. Then again, maybe they are wealthy and it is worth it to them to have her the heck out of the house. My kids had three choices … community college, live at home, and a job … or a 4 year college, a scholarship, move out, and a job … or just move out and do whatever they wanted. To me, my kids having it better than I did means they have more opportunities to make it on their own, not my having a bigger teat for them to suck on. Both did well … although they took different paths to get there.
