Years ago the Royal Navy said it was most likely a lucky shot from KMS Prince Euegene's
8 × 20.3 cm (8.0 in) guns although I personally think that the Royal Navy maintained that KMS Bismark's 8 × 38 cm (15 in) SK C/34 (4 × 2) guns because it was too embarrassing for the Royal Navy that admit it. At the Battle of Jutland VAdm Sir David Richard Beatty commented "there seems to be a problem with our battle cruisers today."
