Yeah but we pulled out of there back in 2000. I did a Det there and built some fuel storage tanks so fuel could run under ground, but Navy turned it over.

Back in '82 I was on deployment teams and scheduling services troops to go on deploys and we had a guy who was a wet-blanket on deploys.. like to Germany and other places that could be fun. I know the reason to deploy is to support the mission.. but we did manage to squeeze in a good time. Anyway, we had one going to Germany and from there to another unannounced site. We didn't want the wet blanket along so I sent him to Iceland.. 3 months worth! Two weeks after he left we went to Germany.. Had a total hoedown..! No wet blanket to hold us back.. ("come on guys, we got to go to Chapel, it'll be Sunday. Tomorrow!"). Sorry 'bout that SMSGT. ! We had a great time,
Nobody got arrested.. We all got back in time to go to work in the morn.. those that were scheduled ! Then we went to part 2 of the deploy.. supporting the CAMs (combat air missions) the facs, Combat battle techs, Cooking chow in the field..
I actually enjoyed that: being outdoors..
we were fortunate to have great weather..
when I got back, the Cmdr. Wanted to have my ears.. He said it was a dirty trick sending the guy to Iceland... I thought they could use the exuberance he exhudes when he shows up.. The LCol
Wasn't buying it.. well the guy came.back early.. He said he had a swell time.. Said he got 5 brothers to seek Christ and become Christians.. After hearing that I didn't feel so bad about deploying him there.. two weeks later I got the big surprise.. The LCol said I needed a break and got s'one else to do deploys.. he sent the. "Wet blanket" and I
To Cold Lake CFB for a Maple Flag exercise.. if anybody has been to Cold Lake CFB, you know what I'm articulating
About.. You can have a good time after duty, you got to find it.. we were up there 3 months for 2 maple Flag exercises.. I like the guy, but I also enjoy getting work done and having good times after.. 4 times on the best nights (Paydays) on base I got NCOD with the Canadians and the Wet blanket was our runner along with another Canadian..
I surmised that in the end it worked out ok, and I was happy to get back to Virginia..
