Vernon Joseph Baker - after he retired he lived in the town where I was born - St. Maries, Idaho population approximately 1500. Both my parents' families are in the area - but most of the progeny of the extended families is scattered far and wide. I happened upon an article about Baker while looking at the town paper online a number of years ago, and was surprised that a medal of honor recipient was living there. I think a highway in the area is named in his honor.
