They are having the same problem in my area, there are so many jobs listings but it is too easy to sit at home and collect benefits than actually work. I know my company alone needs to fill almost 200 position maybe more between the two plants because of retirements etc and HR is having a hard time getting enough applications submitted.

The place I just left has been hiring for 3 years now... jobs making $15 / hr for non-factory unskilled labor (in a low income / cost of living area). Cannot get enough people in, despite this area having an unemployment rate nearly double the national average.

SFC Casey O'Mally - We are an aluminum smelter, unskilled labor but it can be hot and dusty, but starting pay is about 68,000 per year with benefits and there is a yearly bonus based on production and the amount of hours they have worked for that year. Skilled craftsman for the maintenance dept start out at around $35 an hr. We are hiring at least 120 to fill out empty slots etc. Our sister plant about 1 and a half away is hiring close to 160.
