Family: St. Cloud Mall Suspect Was Picking Up iPhone

REPORT: [St. Cloud] Mayor Dave Kleis has seen the security footage that he says shows Adan’s final moments. “[The off-duty cop] had identified himself as a police officer, he made a command, the [mall multiple stabbings] suspect went down and then immediately came forward, lunged at him with a knife,” Kleis said. “There must have been more than 20 feet but he covered it in a matter of a second and then the officer fired.” The mayor says the video shows Adan getting him up three times and the officer continuing to fire.

OPINION: If the off-duty officer had not yet drawn his weapon and was mentally prepared to shoot, the suspect's ability to cover 20 feet in 'one second' means he would have been fighting for the gun while being stabbed. Even after being shot the suspect kept getting up. This is why cops are trained to aim center body mass and to keep shooting until the threat is neutralized. Good argument for responsibly-armed and well-trained citizens to carry concealed.
