Too bad after that burst he's all out of ammo because that's all it holds...

1LT (Join to see) - a HIND-D helicopter was a pretty "armored" aircraft, even if it is just a helicopter.

MSgt John Taylor - my intent was to to show that the 25 is irrelevant in all aspects compared to the gau8 already in service on a dedicated platform. We are trying the whole F4 phantom idea again and it won't be pretty.

Cpl (Join to see) - We have 105 & 40 mm guns on the AC-130 that out dates the A-10 and the F-35. Proven does not mean that it'll serve the total force in years to come. The F-35, like the F-4, is an example of what happens when congress dictates to the military what weapons to buy. The 25 mm is a pretty bad ass gun that's been fielded on aircraft for decades and has been proven to work.

Now, if only they can get it to fire the rest of it's weapon systems, fly at night and in the rain. Biggest rip-off in decades.

PV2 (Join to see) - It's computer-guided and controlled. Still a horrible price though.

Good comment. This program has already become the biggest money pit in the history of DOD and still isn't nearly operationally ready. This happens when you take one basic design and keep making radical changes and multiple airframe models. It is not safe to fly in rain, IMC, night, and cannot enter a combat profile with out multiple changes in flight profile. The tend of Billions squandered on the JSF program to date is staggering. On the other hand it has created thousands of civilian contractor jobs.

SGT Eliyahu Rooff - A major factor in that price is that they cut the numbers to be produced by a factor of over 10. That means the R&D costs had to be spread over 1/10 as many units as planned, plus the smaller number of rounds would probably make mass/automated production unjustifiable. Thus they would be essentially "by hand", like the R&D rounds probably were, driving up the production cost as well.
