A 19-year-old United States Marines recruit from New Jersey died from extreme heat on the last day of vigorous training and the military says in a report shared with his family that the death was avoidable.
Private First Class Dalton Beals, 19, of Pennsville in Salem County, died June 4, 2021, on Parris Island, South Carolina, while completing “The Crucible,” a grueling 54-hour test combining physical, mental and moral training.

PO1 William "Chip" Nagel Tragic new Brother Chip. I can relate to the comments by the recruits. Our Drill Instructors, when I went through boot camp would ridicule recruits who wanted to go to sick bay and call them "f--king pussies" among other things so nobody went unless it was almost life threatening. I only went to sick call once in boot camp and that was by order of the Drill Instructor so they would put me on double ration. Slow Salute and Semper Fi Brother PFC Dalton Beals.
