Into sure when I advocated abolishing the 2nd Amendment. Justice Scalia wrote in an opinion that he believed that restrictions to the 2nd Amendment were very much within the intent of the founders. I grew up with guns and still own a M1911A1. I am having problems figuring out why I might want to carry it in a Church or hospital or on my way to History Class.
Back to restrictions and limitations. There are limitations to the First Amendment. Hate speech, libel, threats and are covered in various state and federal law. Human sacrifice isn't protected by the First Amendment. It's a somewhat silly argument to accuse me or the Admiral of being anti gun. It's a.strawman argument and unworthy of being made by an intelligent and articulate man.

I am all in for Admiral McRaven for President, SecDef, or Senate. Reminds me of Admiral Stockdale and a few others. We need a true leader, a hero, a Patriot, and someone centered and anchored in the Ideals of the American Experiment in serious leadership roles.

Capt Gregory Prickett Yes. That's a policy, and he was the Chancellor as well as UT grad. I suspect that he had a far better handle on local needs and problems than I 'll bet either of us would. I also know that if you buy into the mental health diagnosis for gun violence, he would have had access to the data on the mental health issues there and in the rest of the UT campus. And, the clocktower is still there...and if you don't consider the history of the place, you will miss something.

Capt Gregory Prickett Well, I think you and I disagree about the nature of civil society and the nature of politics in the United States. There is also the question in my mind of the desirability of litmus tests, and whether the single issue of gun rights versus responsibility in a complex and somewhat chaotic nation.

POTUS is taking a lot of heat from both sides of the aisle and from former commanders.
