Entire school board resigns after accidental public livestream

An entire California school board has resigned after making disparaging remarks about families in an online meeting which they did not realise was being publicly live-streamed.
"They want to pick on us because they want their babysitters back," one member said about parents.
Another implied that parents wanted their children out of the house so they could take drugs during the day.
Parents, however, had been joining the public call as it progressed.
"Uh-oh," said board member Kim Beede when she was told, several minutes into the discussion: "We have the meeting open to the public right now."
The Webex meeting immediately went into private status.
But NBC Bay Area reporter Bigad Shaban tweeted snippets afterwards for all to see.

I don't know what the FOIA laws are in California, but in Connecticut where I served on a board of education, them having such a discussion outside the view of the public would be an illegal meeting to start with.
We had to be very careful not to meet together and discuss anything having to do with education or it would be an illegal and unannounced meeting. There was the concept of an executive session that can be held in private but even that has to be announced to the public (the fact that we were having it) along with a general topic of what we would be discussing (e.g. personnel issue, discussion of lawsuit X, discussion of teachers union contract negotiation, etc). The only other exception was members of a particular political party in a caucus. But the discussion they had there, that would have been an illegal meeting of the board in CT.
In CT school board membership was also an elected position so that may be different as well.

This is my current “hometown “. My brother in law is on a neighboring district board. We had a play by play, basically it was F with me and I will F you up. Classy California girls.
