Huge logic jump from saying they don't want to include LGBT as a category for increased penalties to saying it should be legal to lynch them.
For one I don't think the Federal Government should pass this law at all. There is no federal crime for murder within a State nor should there be. Each state should pass their own laws.

The right not to be lynched has to be enforced by the federal government, because the states typically don't enforce those type of crimes.

I am a pretty live let live kinda person. I never understood the concept of "In the name of god, I condemn you". As I view the world, any religion that requires membership, shuns other's beliefs or condemns others for most any reason is merely a social banding to validate ones skewed and misguided beliefs. Don't get me wrong, I believe in a higher power. Just watch the sun rise over the mountains on a fall day with a cup of campfire joe and you will see the wonders of the world before you. The world has too many Mrs. Kravits and needs more Butters.

This is just another example of an article with an agenda. The writer himself doesn't even pretend to be unbiased and calls the group bigoted. And the Southern Poverty Law Group calls any organization who doesn't like what they do, a hate group. That's hardly newsworthy. Unless it supports your argument I guess. But let's see what this group really claims to be about.

From their website:
"We believe every person is created in the image of God and should be treated with dignity and respect. We believe that discourse should be civil and respectful. We condemn violence and hatred and do not support any person or group that advocates or promotes violence or hate."

This doesn't sound like an organization that wants to lynch anyone. But, I'm guessing the writer of the article didn't bother with that level of extensive research. If he had, he might have realized that what he was trying to pin on this group doesn't jive with what they claim to be about. But getting to the bottom of this doesn't appear to be the intent of the article.

I agree with MAJ (Join to see), this was a huge leap and I'm guessing was published strictly for shock value.

MAJ (Join to see) - you Christians didn't think that blacks needed protection either. Why should they be upset that they couldn't eat in a good restaurant or stay at a nice hotel in the South?

Capt Gregory Prickett - You must be the best lawyer in Texas. I've never seen anyone quite this good at redirecting and misdirecting a conversation.

No one ever made the statement that black people were not mistreated in the south (and the north for that matter). No one ever made the statement that Christians never mistreated black people. I'm not even saying that Christians haven't mistreated gay people. No one ever made the statement that Christians aren't responsible for a whole slew of wrongdoings throughout their history.

However, the topic we are talking about is the plight of homosexuals in 2019. Gay people can stay in any hotel, eat in any restaurant, get any job, etc. etc. that a straight person can. Are there individuals out there that will always treat gay people badly? Of course. Just like there will always be racists people. Laws will never be able to stop that.

Lastly, be careful throwing around the phrase "you Christians" as if to imply that you have any idea what myself or other Christians think about gay people or anything else for that matter.

Capt Gregory Prickett - I just assumed that being the best lawyer in Texas had to at least put you in the running for best in the country.
