SSgt (Join to see) I have served as a Combat Watch Officer, Tactical Action Officer and Chief Engineer on 3 of the 4 types of ships that have been in these accidents. In answer to the question of being hacked by the Chinese, other than being click bait headlines begging for attention, no, they weren't hacked. Unless the Chinese have figured out a way to temporarily blind all of the lookouts and bridge watch standers. All the elctronic doo dads are awesome, but in the end, in situations like this, the MK1 eyeball is the best tool. This will come down to a training deficiency. Have a great week!

LT Brad McInnis Unless they figured out how to get the sailors to put in electronic contact lenses, which have been pre-programmed to transmit all info seen on the deck...
Sorry, my tin foil hat fell off there for a sec. :)

They could hack the gps system, perhaps, but there's no hacking eyeballs. This was a failure, plain and simple.

SN Greg Wright right? I mean, was everyone on watch asleep? Perhaps the tanker had Star Trek-like cloaking capabilities? I mean, those are the only reasons I can think of.

PVT James Strait - Not so long ago they wouldn't even allow Kindles on Navy ships. I'd be pretty surprised if they allowed smart phones.

Pretty silly since the "Eyeball , Mark I "can not be hacked and quite a few of those should have been at work.

1stSgt Nelson Kerr C'mon, shirt! I know you've run in to, at least, one airman who's eyes weren't to be believed...lol.
I do wonder what the heck all those eyeballs on deck are doing when this kind of thing happens, though!

SSgt (Join to see) - One sailor whose eyes are not to be believed is possible, but not multiple sailors with binoculars missing a TANKER, if they were looking.
even Amn Snuffy or an O-1 would find it impossible to miss something that size at close range if the were even pretending to have their head up.
