i was under the impression the US had to Sterilize any Place they left...

That is a complicated issue. I find it difficult to imagine we are not responsible for what we do when we establish an area in a country for our own benefit. We brought it in and if left behind we are liable for the consequences. I'm not sure why Denmark holds responsibility.
