Hysterics about consequences that won't happen and problems that are not problems aside, what the hell are our elected leaders thinking? Of all the many issues on the table that need solutions, what they come up with is hilarious in its inanity. None of this is getting through the House, much less the Senate, much less the Oval Office. We are wasting our time with legislation that is irrelevant in order to posture and score points with some constituency or another.
And they only got elected (or reelected) a few months ago.
WTF, Congress?!
Do something that matters. Anything that matters.
Comprehensive immigration reform, maybe? We seem to have forgotten all about those DACA kids.
How about ratifying our trade agreements?
Maybe work on the budget? (Crazy talk)
Figure out legislation on combatting opioids and their effect on Americans?
Maybe look into reducing the skyrocketing costs of health care?

While I'm on a rant, anyone besides me remember all of those crises we were having a few months or years ago?
Unarmed black people being shot by police.
White supremeciits taking over the streets.
The economy going into the tank.
DACA kids.
#metoo
China trade war
Korea testing nukes/ missiles
ISIS.
Did Trump actually solve all of these things, or did we just change the subject because we were disingenuous about those subjects being important to the political class? i think both, depending on which one we're talking about.

Will the Budget get completed by 1 Oct? Are any Congressional critters surprised that the budget is due 1 Oct? Please let the dumb critters raise their hand. (Note I did not ask Congressional Critters to raise their right or left hand, just A hand....did not want them confused.)

SSgt GG-15 RET Jim Lint - No, the budget will not be done on 1 OCT.
Book it.
To my knowledge, none of the committees have even taken up budget bills. Too much work. If they wait until September, they can just shove it and whatever other nonsense they want into a continuing resolution bill.

SSgt GG-15 RET Jim Lint - If memory serves, it was 8 of 15 appropriations bills that were completed on time. I don't think the democrats make that mistake again, because it took away their leverage.

The argument against this is the same argument that southern churches made when the civil rights movement showed up. All of the white women were going to be molested if blacks were allowed in all-white schools and colleges. Disease would run rampant if blacks could use white bathrooms. The pastor of the First Baptist Church in Dallas gave a speech, to tell northerners to but out of southern Jim Crow laws. Interracial marriages were a blasphemy against god.

The religious right can believe whatever they want.

What they can't do is discriminate against the LGBT.

LCDR Joshua Gillespie - I'm sorry, but Exodus 21 is not about servants or employees, it is about out and out slavery. That part of Yahweh's laws spells out exactly how you obtain and treat your slaves, the difference between Jewish male slaves and all other slaves, that you could beat them so long as they did not die within a day or so, that except for Jewish males, the slaves were your property who could be bought or sold or passed down to your heirs.

And while there were many eminent abolitionists associated with churches, there were just as many on the other side.

To me, and for what it's worth, the Bible can't be read like a law book or contract. It isn't comprised of clauses and sub-paragraphs crafted to exclude the responsibility for understanding the greater message. Is slavery moral? Of course not, and I could detail many verses supporting that notion; from Deuteronomy 23:15 to Galatians 3:28... but more to the point, I'm willing to believe God worked in mankind from the beginning to now towards a more perfect understanding of His will. Personally, I'm not going to "take God to task" on how He expressed that message 3,500 years ago vs. today... just as I hope He doesn't judge me for my morality at twenty vs. today.

LCDR Joshua Gillespie - "Is slavery moral? Of course not..." Yet the Bible and your God specifically condoned slavery. And the passages you cite do not prohibit slavery. The Deuteronomy passage also states that if you have a wet dream, you have to leave the camp until sunset of the next day, and Galatians also states that there is neither male nor female.

I would also point out Colossians 3:22 and Ephesians 6:5, where slaves are instructed to obey their masters. I'll point out that Colossians at 3:8 states: "But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips." but it can't tell you not to own slaves? What kind of weak ass god can tell you not to cuss, but at the same time tell slaves to obey their masters?

Thank you for taking the time to reference some great scriptures. While I don't agree with your position... I can still respect that from your perspective, you're acting upon your convictions.

The simplest way to respond to you is this; yes-there are plenty of post-modern, secular concepts that do not correspond well with the teachings of the Bible. I see the Bible for what it is; a collection of theology best understood as the whole, rather than piecemeal. God dealt with mankind from the beginning, relative to where mankind was in a spiritual, social, and historical context. If verses within that context advocate a cleanliness of body and mind, expound upon the hierarchy defined under the Old Covenant between man and woman...the better to extend salvation to all under the New Covenant, wisely advise against futile rebellions, the better to lead humanity towards brotherhood and peace... who am I to challenge that?

Neither you or I have weak minds, so here's a thought; many try to understand why God inspired words that seem to change with time...but few consider that what was really happening was that man was attempting to understand God as humanity changed with time. The Hebrew laws were derived from an attempt to understand God's laws; Christ fulfilled those laws with His sacrifice on the cross. Christianity seeks to understand that sacrifice, and how we should live under grace... one day, we'll all understand how it all connects and what the greater meaning really is.
