Of course there exists a link between # cases and # deaths. It is not a perfect correlation but the link exists.
There high mortality metric made me research mask wearing and this is what I found: India unmasked: 6 out of 10 Indians are not following safety measures during the COVID-19 pandemic While 90 per cent of respondents are aware of the safe practices only 44 per cent follow them properly. The key reason behind non-compliance emerged as ‘inconvenience’ or ‘discomfort’.
They are shooting themselves in the foot. The US and the UK has many mask haters and the mortality metrics are horrible. I find it absolutely stunningly stupid not to use masks as the first line of defense against COVID-19. Trump also falls in that category. Give the Darwin award to the non mask wearers and Trump.

I imagine given the demographics there, the 100K is a woefully undercounted number
