I believe this article hits the nail on the head. It isn't always about the information we give, but how we say it. It is also important to know the demographics of your audience. If you don't understand your audience, then your message might not be received the way you intended. Feedback is a great tool to use when it comes to this. Asking questions and learning about your audience will help you get you're message across so they can understand it.

A professor once defined communication simply as "the message received". We can pass on information all day but if it not understood then it is not received and we are not communicating.
