I did look up car deaths in winter with kids in cars - and I found one article. It was actually in the 50s, the car was running with the heater and the kid died of hypothermia.
I can't understand how anyone forgets about their kid in the car. Now it's different if the kid climbs in the car and accidentally locks himself in. That can happen. I can see how someone is in the house and doesn't expect their kid to sneak outside - just like when you're at the store and kids sneak off to the toy aisle or something. But when people forget their kids in the car...how? You put the kid in the car. And new cars have freaking alarms to tell you that a carseat and kid is in the backseat. I had a loaner car a few weeks ago and it "ding ding" let me know something was in the backseat after I put the carseat in it. Every time I shut off the car. It was annoying. I know my kid is in the car and when she isn't. I even check the backseat after I drop her off at daycare.
Then people leave the kids in the car with the AC on to run in the store - why take them then???? Leave them with family or someone. What is so important you can't just take them in the car? This is why I try to do shopping when the respite nurse is with my daughter. If I have to take her, I take her inside. She likes to go shopping anyway. She's not quite 3 so her ass sits in the cart and she can't climb out.
I just wonder how much of it's intentional or not. I just don't get how you forget the kid. Then advice to not forget "put your purse or your cell phone in the back." Really? So you will remember your cell phone or purse but not your child?
I can't recall that my parents ever left us in the car for hours upon hours. Maybe to run in and pay for gas. I know one time at the store I got my name called over the intercom because I wandered down to the art aisle and didn't tell my dad and then he got to the counter and saw I wasn't there. I'm the middle of five kids too - and I can't recall my dad or mom forgetting us anywhere.

This is why my son stays home with his mother. You can't trust anyone now a days.

That's not entirely true. There are a lot more good daycares than bad ones. That's great you are in a situation where she can stay home and with the kids but not everyone has that luxury. Most people have to use daycare of some kind.
In all honesty I think my daughter is better off and thrives more the last two years in daycare than she did the six months she stayed at home with my now ex husband (her father) - not counting when she was in the hospital. He never did anything much with her. Whenever I came home they were laying on the couch. He rarely kept track of her input and output and I have to keep track of that with her medical issues.
Sometimes kids are better off with daycare than with parents...I 100% trust that daycare with her as she's been there two years and no incident. It's also a respite center so they have nurses on staff, etc, since it's for special needs kids. I know they would never leave a kid in a van, never forget a kid, never not notice a kid isn't there. Two sisters-in-law run daycares from home and they would never leave a kid in a car.

Why do you trust them so much! Maybe because of the experiences in my life I've lost trust in society and people. Who says the next minute they wouldn't hurt your child, just because the last two years have been great. You never know people for real! That's just my opinion.
