RP’ers, my other career was in law enforcement. I’ve seen this video, you’ve seen this video. The man was used an elevated voice to basically and repeatedly ask this woman two questions: why are you wearing that shirt, and, you should not be wearing that shirt in this country, plus or minus. He never touched the woman. He never charged the woman with anything more than a pointed index finger.
He has been charged with a felony hate crime. Can you say political correctness gone apeshit??? I arrested hundreds and hundreds of people in my day. Every one deserved the charges filed against them. This law enforcement activity by the Cook County District Attorney is an egregious abuse of the legal system.
I’m done. What do you say? Imagine all the similar scenes like this you’ve seen on TV news. Nothing happened. No arrests were made. People were shown the door and told to leave Dodge. That’s it. This arrest is insane.

The guy was drunk and disorderly, and apparently not one of the sharper knives in the drawer; it wouldn’t surprise me if his mouth didn’t keep running after he was arrested. It would’ve been nice if there had been a police officer nearby who could have de-escalated this at the beginning.

But he failed to do his job, and he resigned before getting reprimanded... that’s just a mediocre police officer.

1. he was drunk. 2. he was verbally abusive to this woman. 3. he followed her when she tried to get away from him, because she feared he would become violent. 4. he was basically accusing her of being an illegal alien because she was not white and was wearing a shirt that says Puerto Rico. 5. he was so stupid he did not know that Puerto Rico is a US territory.
assault? verbally. hate crime? yes.

I am not a big fan of people being rude and abusive in public. There is far too much of it going on these days. I am not sure being rude or stupid is a crime. If they were, our jails would need to be much larger. He may have been drunk and could have been arrested for public drunkenness and perhaps even assault. Hate crimes are a waste of time and resources.
