Ceremony marks completion of Montford Point Marines memorial

The memorial honors the nation's first African Americans admitted to the U.S. Marine Corps. The statue in the center symbolizes change in the role of African Americans in the Corps. Three concentric rings, representing the Marine Corps, the Montford Pointers and the Society of the 1940s surround the 900-pound statue.
