Unfortunately if the article is right amd it was the "boom" as they call it that failed chances are the FRIES master never could have caught it. We ask if they have been torqued down appropriately and within a specified timeline, but it is just based on the word of the crew. The maintenance of the FRIES bar is also an air crew responsibly (although clearly the FRIES master needs to check it for serviceability prior to use) so hopefully the FRIES master doesn't get completely hung out to dry on this one...

They inspect the ropes and rigging periodically at Ft. Campbell for wear I seem to remember from my days there.
