Does not seem so strange, given that the sun's poles change in the ~middle of each solar cycle? The sun’s rotation is not uniform in every area, either.
For several months folks whose field it is have been saying the Sun's polarity shift will be happening any times, and the same is said about having reached solar maximum for the current cycle (max being the frequency of sunspots and coronal mass ejections).
