Honestly? Do they do anything naked? No? Then I really don't see what possible reason anyone could have for banning them. I remember when the first "girl" petitioned (and won) to join Boy Scouts in Northern California and was assigned to our troop. One of the moms complained that a "girl would be amongst the boys." The statement was made that unless the boys sleep in the nude at camp outs there shouldn't be a problem. Coulda heard a pin drop...

Now that I have read the comments here (I have a very difficult time reading long comments on screens) I understand the emotions behind the dispute. CPO Nate S. since you have invited public replies, I will reply publicly. Your response to LTJG (Join to see) was over the top in my opinion. It is wonderful that you have been supportive of women throughout your professional career, but that is non-responsive to what LT Marberry had to say, and was throwing a huge ranting red herring, imho.
The right wing has been raising huge stinks about transgender people, accusing us of being rapists in dresses, out to molest and rape women and children in bathrooms, and out to corrupt God's creation, through some whim or choice. None of this is true, and they have no evidence, legal, scientific or religious, with which to back up their claims.
A transgender boy is someone who is assigned female at birth. He is not out to rape boys, he just wants to be a boy, and live among the boys and do boy stuff. That is totally reasonable.
If your troop has had good success having girls in it, then there should be absolutely no issue having trans kids of any gender presentation in it either. Trans kids present NO risk to the other kids in the group in any way, except in the perverted minds of certain parents who learned corrupted English renditions of the Bible.

CPO Nate S. wow chief... you just totally went off there in an extremely unprofessional and misinformed rant.
It seems like you somehow think that I am against girls in scouts. I'm an Eagle scout, I am a Cub Scout Den Leader for an all-girl Webelos den, and I am helping to start the first all-girl Scout troop in Hampton Roads. Nobody is more supportive of girls in Scouting BSA than I.
I am sorry that you felt personally attacked when I said "right wing," but I stand by what I said because the vast majority of conservatives are against girls being in Boy Scouts, and against LGBT children from being in any scout organization. Read Rick Perry's book "On My Honor" where he goes on and on about the "attacks" against the Boy Scouts by liberals who want girls and gays to be able to join.
Your complete misunderstanding of my point aside, how dare you call my integrity into question. How dare you say that I of all people am against the progress and change for the better.
My original point (from a year ago mind you) was that *CONSERVATIVES* have a problem with girls in scouts. Somehow, you thought that *I* have a problem with girls in scouts, and you lashed out in a manner than tarnishes your anchor and takes credibility from your name. If any chief I have worked with had personally lashed out at me like this, my next stop would be the CMC's office.

LCDR Rabbah Rona Matlow - Rabbah, we have not been provided with a transgender boy or girl who wanted to join the troop at this point. But, the new group of girls is doing very well so far and we have some truly engaged moms and dads. I am supportive, always, of young people ALL young people, getting positive experiences and being protected in those experiences, regardless of who they are.
Please read what I sent you under separate cover. It is Ok, for the LtJG and you to be angry because of the inaccurate messaging being created that is not being questioned on a number of levels and fronts. As I shared in my separate communications as I am trying to make a much different point based on the LtJG's commentary that prompted my "over the top" response. I get your points as you have laid them out. My point is more directed, at how the LtJG's comments came across. That is why I am trusting your wisdom in the draft commentary I shared under separate cover as mentioned. As you know, I would not have sent you separate copy if I was not willing to gain an understanding of both the obvious and not so obvious challenges being faced in the trans and other communities, especially from a healthcare basis.
The JG, despite personal anger, has a responsibility to communicate more clearly, as I shared in my separate commentary, so that the "red herring" commentaries are less likely. I believe my separate commentary to someone I respect (you, Rabbah) based on their experience is worthy of my opportunity to advance that trustworthiness and my capacity to learn. I also respect, this open forum. You are 100% correct I did welcome a more public commentary, and had I not been either mature enough nor willing to invite the same I would not have, and that would have also spoken volumes.
When you read, what I sent you, I hope that our offline chat will be fruitful as it has been in the past and that we both continue to learn as that is what God means for each of us to do. To your other point, it would be nice if everyone spoke Aramaic (aka ancient Hebrew if your will) and people could understand the Bible in it's original language. I wish, I had that linguistic skill, because I always wanted to better understand it in its original context. But, I may well be the exception than the rule!
In closing, thank you!

Chief, I appreciate your willingness to listen. This is a very emotional topic, and far too many people, not just you, shoot first and ask questions later. If more people would ask questions and learn, before making decisions, far less hate would be spewed.
I invite anyone who is interested, to read my website, http://www.RabbahRona.us to learn about who we are as transgender people, to see what the Bible REALLY has to say about us and also a little about science. You will be amazed!

A blog about transgender transition and Jewish tradition.
Because treating transgender boys the same as any other kind of boys means the world is going to end. I'm glad the Boy Scouts has finally come to it's senses.

//Transgenderism is a mental illness.//
Mental health professionals overwhelmingly disagree, going as far as to point out that bigotry (rather than any medical evidence) was the only reason why it ever was listed as such prior. I'd take the consensus of the professional opinion to hold more weight than yours.

SSG(P) (Join to see) - Why did you censor "penis"? It's a perfectly legitimate anatomical term. It's telling, as discomfort with the word would indicate a type of juvenile ignorance or immaturity.
